I Hate Cooking Salt and Light teamHome cook preparing a meal

"I Hate Cooking is an Australian in-home cooking service that hires local cooks to prepare meals for clients in their homes."

Is This the Right Fit For Me?

This role is ideal if you:

  • Love cooking and feeding others
  • Want flexible, part-time work
  • Are reliable and organised
  • Enjoy meeting new people
  • Want meaningful work (not just a job)

We'll help you figure out the best way to get started based on your experience and setup.

What Will I Actually Do?

Visit clients in their homes

Cook 3 - 5 meals in 2 - 3 hours

Leave them with a fridge full of food

That's it.

No meal planning stress. No chasing clients. No invoicing. Just show up, cook, and do what you do best.

What This Role Really Looks Like

This isn't a hobby or a casual "when I feel like it" role.

You'll be:

  • Working independently in clients' homes
  • Managing your time and being punctual
  • Cooking efficiently within a set timeframe
  • Representing the I Hate Cooking brand

It's flexible, but it still requires reliability, initiative, and a genuine love of cooking for others. It works really well for the right person.

Why join us

Why Do People Choose I Hate Cooking?

Flexible Work That Fits Your Life

Work around school hours, study, or another job.

Run Your Own Business (Without the Stress)

You operate under your own ABN, but we handle bookings, payments, and systems.

Meaningful, Feel-Good Work

You're helping real people - busy families, elderly clients, and those who genuinely need support.

A Supportive Community

You're part of a team that actually supports each other - not doing it alone.

Work That Stays Human (Even as Tech Evolves)

A lot of work is changing with technology, but this is something people still want done by a real person.

This is hands-on, human work that people genuinely value, and that's not going anywhere.

This Might Not Be For You If...

  • You don't enjoy cooking regularly
  • You're not comfortable working independently
  • You're not open to growing your work over time
  • You're looking for a passive or hands-off role

What Our Cooks Say

Hear from the amazing people who are already making a difference in their communities.

"The amazing team we work with, the clients we get to meet and form friendships with and the flexibility it gives us to juggle family life."

JJessI Hate Cooking Team Member 3 years - Melbourne

"I love the flexible hours. To have the opportunity to work while my kids are at school, and be there for them in the afternoons. Being able to help make someone's week a little bit easier, with healthy meals they didn't have to prepare themselves."

DDanielleI Hate Cooking Team Member 7 years - Brisbane

"I love cooking with IHC. I used to work in the disability sector and also as a Thermomix consultant I get to do something that combines 2 things I love. Working with/for people in need and cooking in my Thermomix."

BBronwynI Hate Cooking Team Member 8 years - Townsville

"My passion is to cook for others. I have finally found a job where I can cook for others where I'm not being put in a commercial kitchen for a 10 to 12 hour shift and the admin team make this job."

SSkyeI Hate Cooking Team Member 6 months - Greater Newcastle

"Flexibility, positive work environment, helping others whilst having reliable admin."

MMandyI Hate Cooking Team Member 4 years - Brisbane

"The experience of working with I Hate Cooking is welcoming, supportive and honest from the start. So much is done to prepare us for the job and ensure it is a good fit. It is so rewarding."

More Than Just Cooking

Many of our admin team started as cooks. From there, opportunities have grown into:

Operations

Recruitment

Customer Support

Admin and Remote Roles

This isn't just a job - it can grow into something bigger.

Do You Need a Thermomix?

You don't need a Thermomix to start, but it can make a big difference to how efficiently you work.

Many of our cooks begin with what they have and improve their setup over time.

Already have one?

You may be able to start sooner with more opportunities available.

Don't have one yet?

We'll show you how to get started and even work toward earning one. There's no need to invest in a new one (though we can help with that too).

Either way, we'll guide you through the next steps.

Getting Set Up

Most of our cooks already have a basic setup they can work with.

Some choose to invest in small upgrades over time, like a second Thermomix or additional equipment, to make their workflow easier and more efficient.

You don't need everything from day one, but being open to improving your setup will make a big difference.

What Is I Hate Cooking?

We're an in-home cooking service operating across Australia.

Clients choose meals from our menu, and our cooks prepare them in the client's home, filling their fridge with fresh, home-cooked meals in just a few hours.
